Get your new freshmen plugged in with High School!

Candy Sales have begun!

That's right!
Candy Sales will be going on throughout the month of May for middle school students to raise money for Sol Trek! Pick up a box of candy to sell in the Middle School Room before and after Middle School service on Sunday mornings. Each box has 40 candy bars which are sold at $1.00 each. Each box your student sells will earn them $20 toward their Sol Trek account. Return the entire $40 and the empty box to Jill Cole and only Jill Cole on Sunday mornings. Money can be used toward the cost of camp or for their spending money too. Money earned must go toward Sol Trek. If your student is not going to Sol trek the money will go into the general fund or even into a friends account. All remaining candy, empty boxes, and money is due back to Eugene Faith Center on May 25th. This is a great fund raiser for middle schoolers and our group will be doing more throughout the summer! Call Jill Cole if you have any questions or concerns about candy sales. 686-9244 ext 128

Sol Trek Flyer Misprint

I goofed!
I am so sorry to announce that there is a mistake on the Sol Trek Brochures! The actual price of the trip is $295 as you might have noticed in the church bulletin or the community life book. Sorry for the confusion. Evidently math is still not my best subject!

SOL TREK 2008!

Sol Trek, also known as "Ubercamp", is our middle school summer camp.
We will leave Eugene Faith Center the morning of August 8th and return the evening of August 15th. Camp this year is at Ross Point Camp located in Post Falls, Idaho. Eugene Faith Center has reserved the entire grounds exclusively for our middle school group. We will also be spending a day at the Silverwood and Boulder Beach theme park. Cost is $275 if paid before July 16th, $325 after July 16th. (Cost includes lodging, transportation, meals at camp, and a ticket to Boulder Beach/ Silverwood theme park.) Students will need additional spending money for meals on the road or money for souvenirs. We recommend around $40 for meals.

Students going into grades 6-8th are eligible for Sol Trek. We strongly recommend that the 8th grade students who will be going into their freshman year of high school in the fall go to High School Camp this summer over Sol Trek. Our main concern is that they become acquainted with the high school staff and other high school students to ease in the transition from middle school to high school.

You can sign your middle school student up for Sol Trek in the Atrium at church on Sunday or you can even register online by clicking on the link below! We will be starting our candy sales fund raiser along with other fund raisers in May!

SCUM WEAR!

What is with the SCUM?

One of Tim Johnson's sermons from this past summer brought up a verse from
1 Corinthians 4:13 and described Christians being labeled as "Scum of the Earth". Tim has talked about naming our Middle School Group "SCUM OF THE EARTH" and so we agreed over the idea of making shirts after the bible verse. Well, they are officially here for the Holidays! The middle school group now has "Scum of the Earth" hooded sweatshirts available for $20 each. They come in 4 colors: Black, Gray, Forest Green, and Royal Blue and come in adult sizes S-XXXL!!! You can sign up for one on Sunday mornings or the One Wed Night Evenings.

1 Corinthians 4 (NIV)
Apostles of Christ
1So then, men ought to regard us as servants of Christ and as those entrusted with the secret things of God. 2Now it is required that those who have been given a trust must prove faithful. 3I care very little if I am judged by you or by any human court; indeed, I do not even judge myself. 4My conscience is clear, but that does not make me innocent. It is the Lord who judges me. 5Therefore judge nothing before the appointed time; wait till the Lord comes. He will bring to light what is hidden in darkness and will expose the motives of men's hearts. At that time each will receive his praise from God.
6Now, brothers, I have applied these things to myself and Apollos for your benefit, so that you may learn from us the meaning of the saying, "Do not go beyond what is written." Then you will not take pride in one man over against another. 7For who makes you different from anyone else? What do you have that you did not receive? And if you did receive it, why do you boast as though you did not?

8Already you have all you want! Already you have become rich! You have become kings—and that without us! How I wish that you really had become kings so that we might be kings with you! 9For it seems to me that God has put us apostles on display at the end of the procession, like men condemned to die in the arena. We have been made a spectacle to the whole universe, to angels as well as to men. 10We are fools for Christ, but you are so wise in Christ! We are weak, but you are strong! You are honored, we are dishonored! 11To this very hour we go hungry and thirsty, we are in rags, we are brutally treated, we are homeless. 12We work hard with our own hands. When we are cursed, we bless; when we are persecuted, we endure it; 13when we are slandered, we answer kindly. Up to this moment we have become the scum of the earth, the refuse of the world.

14I am not writing this to shame you, but to warn you, as my dear children. 15Even though you have ten thousand guardians in Christ, you do not have many fathers, for in Christ Jesus I became your father through the gospel. 16Therefore I urge you to imitate me. 17For this reason I am sending to you Timothy, my son whom I love, who is faithful in the Lord. He will remind you of my way of life in Christ Jesus, which agrees with what I teach everywhere in every church.

18Some of you have become arrogant, as if I were not coming to you. 19But I will come to you very soon, if the Lord is willing, and then I will find out not only how these arrogant people are talking, but what power they have. 20For the kingdom of God is not a matter of talk but of power. 21What do you prefer? Shall I come to you with a whip, or in love and with a gentle spirit?
